Please forgive me for being a little shmaltzy today. It’s been a difficult week full of not so much good news. There are friends who have passed on, friends and family members in hospital and trying times ahead. But somehow when things are tough something always comes along to remind me that there is always good stuff happening, to try to balance things out, even just a little bit.
Last night I met a group of phenomenal women. I was invited to speak at a women’s group in Rondebosch about my novel, A Million Miles from Normal, how I wrote it, etc. etc. (Just click on the thumbnail of my book over there on the right if you’d like to find out more about the book. Christmas is just around the corner and it makes for a good gift. Punt punt.)
Anyway, wow, what an incredible experience.
And here’s the very best part, when they invited me, they generously asked how I wanted to be renumerated for speaking to them. Since I was happy to do it for the free scotch and good snacks you often find at such events, I told them about The Bookery, a charity I support which creates libraries in schools, who desperately need them.
(To read more about what The Bookery does, click here, they’re an Equal Education Organisation.)
And so these women collected books. Boy did they collect books. Quite astonishing, really.
They collected a little more than this:
But just less than this:
Enough to at least fill a children’s library from A to N.
I’m moved and touched, and thrilled and excited all at the same time. I’m ‘Motouchthrilexcited’
Thank you ladies. Your generosity is going to make a huge difference to so many children.
It was an absolute pleasure meeting all of you. (And quite a laugh too!) I loved every second of it.
Thank you Beth.
What a nice post, thanks. Strength for … whatever comes 😉
Books and librarys, a few of my favourite things 😉
peace and love
