2 epic fails and 1 epic win

Posted on 07/04/201513/04/2015

Two epic fails and one epic win, or as I like to call it, Adventure Boot Camp day 1.

Parked like an idiot and had to trudge half a kay in the dark to get to where the camp was being held. Oh ps, yes, it is still dark at ten to six in the am. As dark as night time in a cave during load shedding.

Then realised I had forgotten my mat and weights, despite the one email and two texts I’d received to remind me to bring them along. Yay.

There were six of us. Five of us were newbies. The sixth lady was on her fifth camp, going five days a week. Impressive. She had one of those headlamps campers use, which immediately marked her out as someone who knew stuff. So I decided to stay close to her. For about a second and a half, then she overtook me.

The trainer, Nazeem (I think that’s his name, but I couldn’t hear so well over the pounding of my heart) was great, although he didn’t do all the exercises with us, which made me a little suspicious at first. But I kind of don’t blame him, they were hard. Plus he had his work cut out for him, it was a little like herding cats. Imagine, one guy, six women of varying fitness and enthusiasm levels, six am… read that in a deep husky voice, and it could be the trailer to one of those thriller movies where everyone dies in the end.

Oh and the epic win? I didn’t vomit as predicted. That’s a personal best. Score!

Am I mad, I kind of enjoyed it. Exercising as the sun rises on the beachfront is pretty breathtaking (or maybe that was the burpees that were breathtaking [I don’t know if what we were doing was actually called burpees, but it’s the only name of a really hard exercise that I know.]) And now I feel all smug and energised cos it’s 7:32 and I’m finished my exercising for the day. Not sure I’m still going to be so smug at 4pm today when I crash and burn.

Next week, day 2. When they ramp all the reps up from 30 seconds to 60 seconds. God help us all.

Swag
Plus we got free drugs. Trainer said it’s ‘good for your bones and eyes and stuff’. Maybe if I take one a day as instructed, next week I won’t trip over my borrowed mat in the pre-dawn light.

If you want to join me, check out the Adventure Boot Camp website here, pick where you want to go, when etc etc. Flexi-flexi.
